  • Deep-Cleans the Whole Machine : Powers away buildup, detergent residue, mineral deposits and soap scum from the drum, hoses, pump and drain lines.
  • Fast-Dissolving Powder : Dissolves and circulates through the whole wash system instead of sitting at the bottom of the drum the way an undissolved tablet can.
  • Clears Musty Odors at the Source : Removes the hidden residue the smell feeds on, rather than covering it with fragrance.
  • Front-Loaders and Top-Loaders : The same routine in HE and standard machines. Always run it on an empty drum, with no laundry and no detergent.
  • Hot Water Does the Work : The powder needs heat to activate, so use your machine's Tub Clean cycle or the hottest normal cycle it has.
  • Pre-Measured Packets : One packet per cycle, once a month. No measuring, no spills, no waste.
  • Finish the Job by Hand : After the cycle, wipe under the door gasket and rinse the drain filter. Those two spots hold water no cycle can reach, and they are where a returning smell lives.

Description

The smell is not your laundry — it is what is living in the machine. Seaways Washing Machine Cleaner is a fast-dissolving powder that clears the detergent residue, soap scum and mineral deposits collecting in the drum, hoses, pump and drain lines. That film is where the musty smell actually comes from.

Why you'll love it

  • Deep-cleans the whole machine — powers away buildup, detergent residue, mineral deposits and soap scum from the drum, hoses, pump and drain lines.
  • Powder, not a tablet — it dissolves and circulates through the whole wash system, instead of sitting at the bottom of the drum the way an undissolved tablet can.
  • Goes after the source of the odor — it removes the residue the smell feeds on rather than covering it with fragrance.
  • Front-loaders and top-loaders — the same routine in HE and standard machines: one packet, empty drum, no laundry and no detergent.
  • Hot water does the work — the powder needs heat to activate, so use your machine's Tub Clean cycle, or the hottest normal cycle it has.

How to use

  1. Empty the drum — no laundry, no detergent, nothing else added.
  2. Pour one packet directly into the drum, not into the detergent drawer.
  3. Run Tub Clean or Drum Clean if your machine has one. If it does not, run the hottest normal cycle available.
  4. When the cycle finishes, wipe under the rubber door gasket and leave the door open until the drum dries. On a front-loader, rinse the drain filter as well — those two spots hold standing water no cycle can reach, and they are where a returning smell lives.

Ingredients

Five ingredients, and each one has a job. Here is what they are for, in plain English.

IngredientWhat it does
Sodium PercarbonateOxygen bleach · CAS 15630-89-4 The active ingredient, and the reason this is a powder rather than a liquid. In hot water it breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and soda ash, releasing active oxygen that lifts the stained detergent-and-body-soil film off the drum, the lines and the parts you cannot see. It needs heat to work — that is why a cold cycle wastes the packet. It leaves nothing behind: it finishes as water, oxygen and soda ash.
Sodium Dodecylbenzene SulfonateSurfactant · CAS 25155-30-0 The degreaser. Washer odor does not come from your clothes — it comes from a film of body oil, detergent and fabric softener that collects behind the drum, in the gasket and along the drain lines. This lifts that film off the metal and holds it suspended in the water so it leaves with the cycle instead of settling back.
Sodium CarbonateSoda ash · alkaline builder · CAS 497-19-8 Sets the chemistry up. It raises the alkalinity of the water, which is what lets the surfactant break down fats and oils in the first place — grease chemistry does not work in neutral water. It also softens the water and provides the alkaline conditions the percarbonate needs to release its oxygen.
Sodium CitrateWater softener · CAS 68-04-2 The salt form of citric acid. It binds the calcium and magnesium in your tap water so those minerals cannot blunt the cleaning agents, and it helps lift the light mineral deposit that builds up alongside the residue on the heating element.
Sodium SulfateCarrier · CAS 7757-82-6 A neutral mineral salt that carries the actives, keeps the powder free-flowing so it does not cake in the packet, and controls how quickly the dose dissolves once the drum fills. It has no cleaning action of its own.

No chlorine bleach, no phosphates, no added fragrance and no dye. This is a cleaner, not a sanitizer, and we make no germ-kill claim — it removes the residue that odor-causing bacteria live in. Run it in an empty drum with no detergent and no laundry, on a Tub Clean cycle or the hottest normal cycle your machine has. Safety data sheet available on request at support@seaways.us.

The Seaways Standard

Oxygen, not chlorine — and here is why

A washer cleaner runs against rubber seals and a heating element every month. What you leave out matters as much as what you put in.

Not in it

No Chlorine Bleach

Full-strength chlorine used as a monthly routine is what genuinely degrades a front-loader's door gasket over time. We built this around oxygen chemistry instead.

Not in it

No Phosphates

Sodium citrate handles the hard water instead — no phosphate or EDTA builders going down the drain with every cycle.

Not in it

No Added Fragrance or Dye

Nothing added to perfume the drum or colour the water. The safety data sheet lists five components, and neither of those is one of them.

Not in it

No Suds to Rinse Out

A foaming cleaner spends the cycle being rinsed instead of cleaning. This one is low-foaming by design, so the whole dose stays on the job.

In it

Oxygen-Based Cleaning

Sodium percarbonate releases active oxygen in hot water, lifting the residue film off the drum and the lines, then finishes as water, oxygen and soda ash.

In it

Hard-Water Ready

Sodium citrate binds the calcium and magnesium in your supply, so loosened residue and light scale drain away instead of settling back onto the drum.

Run it in an empty drum with no detergent and no laundry, on a Tub Clean cycle or the hottest normal cycle your machine has. A cleaner, not a sanitizer — we make no germ-kill claim.

Product Features

DEEP CLEANING & ELIMINATE ODOR

An oxygen-based powder that reaches the residue film hidden in the drum and the water lines, breaking down the grime and soap scum an ordinary wash cycle leaves behind.

REMOVES ODOR-CAUSING BUILDUP

Lifts the hidden residue and mildew film that cause stubborn musty odors, leaving the drum fresh after a single cycle.

REGULAR CARE, NOT A RESCUE MISSION

Run it monthly and residue never gets a chance to establish in the drum, the gasket or the drain lines. Build-up is far easier to prevent than it is to remove once the smell has set in.

FRONT-LOADERS AND TOP-LOADERS

HE or standard, the routine is the same: one packet into an empty drum, then the machine's Tub Clean cycle or the hottest normal cycle it offers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which washing machines is this for?

Front-load and top-load, HE and standard. It works the same either way.

Use it in an empty drum, with no clothes and no detergent. If your machine has a Tub Clean or Drum Clean cycle, run that. If it does not, run the hottest normal cycle you have.

How often should I run it?

Once a month is the usual rhythm.

Run it more often if you wash mostly in cold water, use a lot of fabric softener, live in a hard-water area, or have a front-loader whose door stays shut between loads. All four of those speed up residue build-up.

Does it need hot water, or will a cold cycle do?

It needs heat. The powder is oxygen-based, and oxygen chemistry activates with temperature — in a cold cycle a good part of the packet simply will not do its job.

Use your machine's Tub Clean or Drum Clean cycle, which already runs hot. If your machine does not have one, choose the hottest normal cycle it offers. This is the single most common reason a tub cleaner appears not to have worked.

My washer smells. Will this fix it?

Usually, and it helps to know where the smell actually comes from. It is not the clothes. It is a film of detergent residue, fabric softener and body soil that collects wherever water sits: the rubber door gasket on a front-loader, the detergent drawer, and the drain filter.

This dissolves the build-up inside the drum and the lines. The parts it cannot reach are on you: after the cycle, wipe under the door gasket and pull and rinse the drain filter. If the smell returns within a week, the gasket or the filter is where it lives.

Do I need to run a rinse or wipe anything down afterwards?

Run one short rinse cycle on the empty drum after it finishes, then leave the door and the detergent drawer open until the inside is dry.

Wipe the gasket while the machine is still warm. That is when the loosened residue comes off most easily.

Can I run it together with detergent, bleach or a load of laundry?

No to all three. Run it on its own, in an empty drum, with nothing else added.

Detergent in the same cycle just adds to the residue you are trying to remove, and mixing cleaning products is how you get a reaction you did not plan for. Laundry is worse: the cycle lifts loosened soil into the water, and anything in the drum at that point gets that soil deposited back onto it. It also costs you the cleaning itself, because the fabric absorbs cleaner that should be working on the drum.

Will it harm the rubber seal, the drum or the electronics?

Used as directed, it is intended for the stainless steel, plastic and rubber components in a domestic washer: one dose, empty drum, normal wash-cycle water volume.

Do not apply the powder undiluted to a gasket, and do not leave it sitting in a machine that is not running. What genuinely does degrade a door seal over time is chlorine bleach used at full strength as a monthly cleaner, which is one reason we do not recommend that routine.

Does it sanitize or disinfect the machine?

No, and we do not claim that it does.

What it does is remove the residue and soil that odor-causing bacteria live in, which is why the smell goes away. That is a cleaning claim, not a disinfection claim. A product that sanitizes a washing machine has to be EPA-registered for that use, and this is not.

Will it remove limescale?

It is built for detergent and body-soil residue, which is the usual cause of washer odor, and it lifts the light mineral deposits that come along with it.

If you are in a hard-water area and you can see chalky white scale on the heating element or the drum, that is established limescale and it needs a descaler rather than a cleaner. Our Descaler is the right product for that job. Many hard-water households use both: descale a few times a year, clean monthly.

What is in the box, how long does it keep, and what if it does not work for me?

Each packet is 4.4 oz and treats one cycle. The 4-pack is four packets, 17.6 oz in total, which is four months of monthly cleaning. The 12-pack is twelve packets, so a full year.

Shelf life is three years, and that holds whether or not a packet has been opened. Store the box dry and at room temperature. Because a packet is dosed for a single cycle, there is normally nothing left over to store anyway.

You have 60 days from delivery to request a return. You are welcome to open the outer box, but each packet needs to still be sealed. Tell us how many are unopened and we will refund those. An opened packet cannot be refunded, because a powder cleaning product cannot be resold once the seal is broken. In most cases we will not ask you to ship anything back. If a packet arrives torn or damaged, send us a photo and we will replace it. Email support@seaways.us with your order number.
